Kinja'd!!!

Delta Airlines has essentially screwed me out of a day of vacation so I am stuck waiting for my flight for hours. So help keep me entertained and ask me about my 2002 Miata or my 1988 323 GTX OR ANYTHING ELSE.

Whoa! Nice GTX. I love those little cars. I’ve only ever seen 2 of them. When and where did you get it from?

Thanks! I bought mine two years ago from a guy in New Mexico who had two of them. It’s proven to be an excellent car for Colorado winters! Digital dash, Nardi steering wheel, 2.5" turbo-back exhaust.

Want to buy a very expensive car from me?

1,700 miles is a little out of the way for me. The GTX has been to Pikes Peak twice now though!

I quite like her. Ohlins coilovers, Wilwood big brakes, 15x8 6ULs, extended angled short shifter.

They’re getting to be pretty hard to find! Probably around 600 still left in the U.S.

Yeah, that’s not very many at all. It will probably never happen. I don’t have space for an extra car anyways, and when I do, the next thing I buy will probably be a motorcycle or an IROC, so when I do get around to it, they will probably have become incredibly collectible.

I’m a fan of the parking brake.

Yeah, so that Wilwood big brake setup has a handbrake, but it’s more or less just for ticking the handbrake box for tech inspections. It won’t hold the car on the mild grade that my driveway sits on.

I want a car to wrench on. I currently have a SVT focus that’s my second car. It runs and drives but it’s got a ton of shit that could use fixin’. It’s also got quite a lot of rust on the nuts and bolts and is miserable to work on. Plus the valve cover gasket was leaking oil but it’s either got much, much worse or i have like a mainseal or something that went to add insult to injury.

Should I sell the SVT and find a more interesting (or worthwhile) project or just keep spinnin’ them wrenches on this?

Apparently not! Now reaching my destination 7 hours later than originally planned. Joy.

GTXs go for around $2-6k depending on the condition. Focuses aren’t really my thing, so I don’t think I would have put up with as much pain as you have with it. That being said, these are 25+ year-old cars with an AWD system that wasn’t used on any other cars. Parts can be difficult to source and the transmission limits how much power you can add (more than 200hp will destroy it).

If you can get past that, though, they are fantastic cars to drive. I’ll be posting an in-depth review of the GTX soonish.

i’m by no means attached to it. here’s a good(?) twitter thread about it (link) . Surprised the GTX is that much, damn. But they are rare. I wouldn’t get one because I wouldn’t be willing to tolerate the parts nonsense.
